Is there something missing in your life? Ever wonder about that “void” you sometimes sense?
In every human heart, there is a God-given awareness that there is “something more” to life than what we can see and experience in this transient world.
The Amplified Translation of Ecclesiastes 3:11 tells us that “God has planted eternity, a sense of divine purpose, in the human heart, a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God…”
What does it take to find and know God? Do we seek some type of spiritual experience? Give our time and money to charitable organizations? Become a “better person” so God will accept us?
NO! There is no self-help solution for filling this void. God created the longing for eternity in our hearts, and He is the only one who can satisfy our thirst, and fill the emptiness within us.
Friend, I am asking you to open your mind and heart to Him right now. If you will, He will give you the answers you crave.
GOD LOVES YOU!
He created you, and knows everything about you. He loves you so much, and He wants you to know Him, and spend eternity with Him.
Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
Jesus, God in the flesh, came into the world He had created, so that each of us could know God in a personal way.
So, what keeps us from knowing God?
SIN SEPARATES US FROM GOD!
All of us have sinned, and our sin has separated us from God. Deep in our hearts we sense that separation. Our attitude toward God may be one of active rebellion, or one of passive indifference toward Him, but either attitude is evidence of what the Bible calls sin. (Romans 3:23)
God is the source of eternal life. But sin has stood as an impenetrable barrier between man and God, eternally separating us from Him. That is the very definition of spiritual death: being cut off from the life of God. (Romans 6:23)
So, this is what God did for us…
JESUS TOOK OUR SPIRITUAL DEATH AND THEN GAVE US HIS RESURRECTION LIFE!
Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, became one with us. He took all of our sins, and paid the full penalty for them on the cross. Jesus died, and was separated from His Father by our sins. In doing so, He broke down the barrier between us and God. (Romans 5:8)
Jesus not only died for us, but He was physically resurrected three days later. He now offers us His new life. The life He offers us is a life liberated from our old sin-nature and from spiritual death. It is a life in which we have a right relationship with God as our Father. (2 Corinthians 5:21)
We could never have broken through that sin-death barrier by ourselves. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
Now, He invites us to come to Him in faith and drink deeply of the God-life He offers. He promises to fill that “eternity-void” within us.
“If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink.
He who believes in me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (John 7:37,38)
AS WE RECEIVE HIM BY FAITH, WE RECEIVE ETERNAL LIFE!
The sin-death barrier is demolished, but we must personally accept by faith what Jesus did for us, by receiving Him as our Savior and Lord.
“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)
How do we receive Him? How do we take that first step of faith with Him on the road of eternal life?
“If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
(Romans 10:9)
The exact words you use to commit yourself to the Lord are really not that important. You are coming to your heavenly Father with simple child-like faith, expressing your love and devotion to Him from your heart. You may want to pray something similar to the prayer below, or pray in your own words:
“Jesus, I want to know you. Thank you for dying on the cross for me, so that I could come to the Father, and receive His forgiveness and mercy.
I declare that you are my Savior and my Lord. I invite you to enter my life right now by your Holy Spirit. I am now saved! I am now born-again! And I thank you for the gift of eternal life you have given me. I will live my new life in union with you. I am yours for all eternity, beginning now. Amen!”
AND NOW YOU KNOW!
“But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:4-8)
