NOTE: This week’s post will conclude our eight part series on our spiritual union with Christ. If you have enjoyed this series please share it with others, and consider subscribing to our site.
For the past eight weeks we have been learning who we are in Christ.
We’re also learning what we have now, because of Christ.
Both our new identity and our inheritance are eternally connected to Jesus, because we are one spirit with Him.
The Bible tells us that we are God’s children and “… if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” (Romans 8:17, NKJV)
” And since we are His true children, we qualify to share all His treasures, for indeed, we are heirs of God Himself. And since we are joined to Christ, we also inherit all that He is and all that He has… ” (Romans 8:17, Passion Translation)
“All that Christ claims as His will belong to all of us as well.” (Phillips Translation)
Praise God, He has (past tense) already given us all the authority, power, and resources we will ever need. And these blessings now belong to us as part of our inheritance in Christ.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed with every spiritual blessing… before the foundation of the world” (Ephesians 1:3-4)
“His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3)
Our abundantly lavish inheritance in Christ is perfectly described as “grace upon grace, spiritual blessing upon spiritual blessing, favor upon favor, and gift heaped upon gift.”
(John 1:16, Amplified Bible)
We can see two things from these verses:
● Our inheritance in Christ is immense.
● Our Father is extremely generous and is eager to abundantly bless us.
Now the question becomes, “Where is our inheritance and how can we access it?”
Let’s deal with the first part of that question… “Where is our inheritance?”
“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
(Philippians 4:19)
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3-4)
It looks like we have the answer to our question of “Where’s our inheritance?”
Our riches are stored in glory. Our inheritance is reserved in heaven for us.
Be honest. Do you feel a little disappointed? Are you a little confused? Why would everything we need NOW be locked up in a vault in heaven? We won’t even need material wealth in heaven, will we? The streets are made of solid gold.
I almost feel like the TV commercial for J.G. Wentworth… “It’s my inheritance, and I want it NOW!”
Before you feel disappointed about what the verses we just cited say, think about what they don’t say. They don’t say we can’t access our inheritance and use it before we get to heaven. They don’t say the riches of our inheritance are inaccessible or unavailable to us right now.
Well then, why is our inheritance reserved in heaven? Why doesn’t God just make a direct deposit into our earthly bank accounts every week?
Here’s why: If all our financial blessings from the Lord were deposited and stored up in earthly bank accounts, our withdrawals from those accounts would become just ordinary, everyday transactions, with no faith needed or required.
God wants us to come to Him and to trust Him for every need, financial, physical, and spiritual.
” And without faith living within us it would be impossible to please God. For we come to God in faith knowing that He is real and that He rewards the faith of those who passionately seek Him”. (Hebrews 11:6, Passion Translation)
Read the last part of that verse again. “We come to God in faith and… He rewards the faith of those who passionately seek Him”.
God wants us to seek Him, the Blesser, not the blessings. And when we seek Him through our faith, He will always respond with His presence, His glory, His grace, and His blessings.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you“. (Matthew 6:33)
“ ¹⁹ Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; ²⁰ but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. ²¹ For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”.
(Matthew 6:19-21)
“ Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.”
(Luke 12:32)
If our treasure is deposited in heaven, our hearts, and our faith will be in heaven also. So the focus of our lives will be on “things above where Christ is, not on things on the earth.”
(Colossians 3:1-3)
Our inheritance is reserved in heaven for us, stored in heaven’s bank vault.
So, how we can access the riches of our inheritance? How can we transfer funds from our heavenly account to our earthly account?
It’s not complicated. We can make withdrawals anytime, anyplace, in any amount. All we have to do is to know and show our “In-Christ I.D.” and use our “Word-Key”.
(* Like your bank card and PIN at the ATM or like the vault and lock box in your bank)
To access the riches of our inheritance in Christ we must first show our spiritual I.D.
Caution: If you show a religious I.D. that says, “I know I’m not worthy because I’m just an old worm-like sinner saved by grace” I’m pretty sure you won’t be allowed inside the vault.
An I.D. that is based on false humility and religious gobbledygook, will be considered counterfeit, and will be rejected when presented.
Faith in our new identity in Christ is what gets us into the heavenly bank vault.
A heaven-issued I.D. would say, “I was a sinner, but thank God I am not a sinner anymore. I have been saved by grace through faith, and I am a new creation in Christ. Old things have passed away and all things in my life have become new.
I am an heir of God and a joint-heir with Jesus Christ. My Father owns this bank and I’d like to access my heavenly resources now! In Jesus’ name! Amen, and thank you very much!”
Your “In-Christ I.D.” opens the vault door.
And your “Word-Key” unlocks your heavenly safe deposit box. So don’t misplace your Key!
Since faith comes by hearing, and hearing by God’s Word, it would be wise to frequently revisit, refresh, and reinforce in your heart the scriptures that describe your abundantly rich inheritance in Him.
You can easily do that by going to our “In Christ Truths” page here on the web-site.
“ So now, brethren, I commend you to God and to the Word of His Grace, which is able to build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified. (Acts 20:32)
Always remember the WORD of His GRACE:
G – God’s
R – Riches
A – At
C – Christ’s
E – Expense
Jesus has earned the indescribably limitless riches of heaven for us.They are already ours. They are reserved for us and can always be accessed by faith.
Now, let’s receive them, and share them with others!
