You Can Make Your Healing Happen!

Many people who read this message need healing personally. Others are praying for loved ones who need a miracle of healing.

My prayer is that this simple message will find its way into your heart, creating faith in you for a miracle of healing. May God be glorified as He confirms His Word in the lives of you and your family members.

There are two basic ways to receive a healing miracle from God.

The first is through the manifestations of Holy Spirit. We often call these manifestations “gifts of the Spirit.”

*Read about these manifestations or “gifts” in 1 Corinthians 12:4-11

1 Corinthians 12:11 tells us that these Holy Spirit manifestations are administered as God wills. The person through whom the gifts are being manifested can’t turn them on or off. I wish we could. Pastors, evangelists, and missionaries would just turn them on and leave them on. I personally wish I could go to a cancer treatment center and just clear the place out. That would be possible if the gifts operated according to our will. But they don’t. They operate as God wills in His sovereignty.

An example of someone in the Bible who was healed in this way was the paralyzed man at the pool of Bethesda.

John 5:1-9
¹ After this there was a feast of the Jews, and Jesus went up to Jerusalem. ² Now there is in Jerusalem by the Sheep Gate a pool, which is called in Hebrew, Bethesda, having five porches.
³ In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water. ⁴ For an angel went down at a certain time into the pool and stirred up the water; then whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease he had. ⁵ Now a certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years. ⁶ When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you want to be made well?” ⁷ The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.” ⁸ Jesus said to him, “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” ⁹ And immediately the man was made well, took up his bed, and walked. And that day was the Sabbath.

The Bible says that there were literally hundreds of people (a great multitude) with all types of infirmities, gathered in that area… every one of them needing healing, and every one of them waiting for something that probably wasn’t going to come to many of them. No one knew when the phenomenon would take place. There was no schedule for the stirring of the water. The odds were definitely against them.

The Greek word that is translated as “waiting” in verse 3 is the word “ekdechomai.” This word means “to wait as accepting a benefit or gift.” It is the equivalent of people today buying a lottery ticket, then, waiting for the televised drawing of the Powerball numbers. Good luck???

Every person there needed a miracle. Every person “hoped” they would be the fastest to the pool, or the “luckiest” among the multitude of people there. The lepers may have even tried tripping the blind. The lame may have grabbed and held onto the legs of the faster deaf and mute people, as they ran to be the first in the pool. Anyone who didn’t win the race… too bad…so sad… more waiting!

They were all “waiting” but the Bible only records that one man receiving his healing that day, and that miracle had nothing to do with either the pool or an angel. How did the lame man receive his healing? It sure wasn’t his faith. It’s obvious from his attitude and his confession that this broken soul had lost all hope. All he could say in answer to Jesus’ question was, “I don’t… I can’t… I’m not.” Nothing positive. No words of faith.

And it wasn’t Jesus’ faith that healed him. Jesus never told anyone in the Bible, “My faith has made you whole.” Jesus had enough faith to heal every person in those five porches, but after the lame man was healed, Jesus disappeared into the crowd. You see, Jesus operated in partnership with Holy Spirit just like He expects us to do. This healing was simply a sovereign manifestation of God’s healing anointing, a gift to this lame man.

This type of healing is most often seen when we are preaching to the unsaved world. What I’m about to say next may be controversial, but here goes: the gifts of the Spirit were designed to be used more often BY THE CHURCH than IN THE CHURCH! They are a divine advertisement of the truth of the gospel as we proclaim it to the world.

Jesus said, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptized will be saved, but he who does not believe will be condemned. And these signs will follow those who believe. In my name, they will cast out demons. They will speak with new tongues. They will take up serpents and if they drink anything deadly, it will by no means hurt them. They will lay hands on the sick and they will recover. So then after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. And they went out and preached every- where, the Lord working with them and confirming the Word through the accompanying signs. (Mark 16:15-20)

The second way to receive healing from God is by faith. In this type of healing, we are the ones who initiate the miracle by our will, and we receive it through faith.

An example of someone who received healing like this in the Bible was the woman with the issue of blood.

Mark 5:25-34 ²⁵ “Now a certain woman had a flow of blood for twelve years, ²⁶ and had suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse. ²⁷ When she heard about Jesus, she came behind Him in the crowd and touched His garment. ²⁸ For she said, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.” ²⁹ Immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of the affliction.
³⁰ And Jesus, immediately knowing in Himself that power had gone out of Him, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My clothes? ³¹ But His disciples said to Him, “You see the multitude thronging You, and You say, Who touched Me?’ ³² And He looked around to see her who had done this thing. ³³ But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. ³⁴ And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be healed of your affliction.”

This was not a sovereign manifestation of the Spirit. Even Jesus didn’t know at first who had been healed. He did know that someone had made a demand on the power of God within Him, through their faith. The woman wasn’t just waiting and hoping. She initiated her own miracle of healing. How?

  • She heard, believed, and acted upon the reports she had received about Jesus. The Greek word for “heard” is “akouo”. It doesn”t mean to just receive sound waves into our ears. It means “to hear, listen, perceive, understand, and respond with action.” The New English Bible translates Romans 10:17 like this, “…faith is awakened by the Word.” The Word wakes up faith in our hearts. After faith is awake, it’s up to us as to what happens next, whether we hit the “snooze button” or whether we jump out of bed and into action!
  • Through her confession, she established and maintained a “never-let-go” connection with Jesus. Several translations (Amplified Classic, Passion Translation, Williams Translation) correctly state that she kept saying, over and over, “If only I may touch His clothes, I shall be made well.”
  • She expressed her faith through the bold actions she took. There is an old proverb that says, “Your actions are shouting so loudly, I can’t hear what you are saying.” Her actions were screaming, “Fear… weakness… crowd… get out of my way! I’m coming through! That healing power in Jesus is mine! Twelve years is wsy.too long! It’s happening TODAY! I’m coming to take it! Nothing can stop me from receiving my healing!”

This little lady reminds me of another stubborn
woman of faith in the Old Testament, who kept saying, “It is well!” (2 Kings 4:8-37)

Jesus said, “If you live in me (abide, vitally united to me) and my Words remain in you, and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.”
(John 15:7, Amplified Bible, Classic)

Most often this type of healing is seen among believers. The Bible says “the just shall live by faith.” (Romans 1:17) It is the believer who has been declared righteous or justified in the sight of God. We, the believers, live by faith. Healing belongs to us.

Healing is “the children’s bread” and God says there is no need for us to ever go hungry. When we receive our covenant rights by faith, healing will become as natural as a child sitting down at mama’s table and grabbing one of her delicious hot biscuits. Healing is ours! God is so good!

You can have a miracle at your own will! God wants you to receive the healing that Jesus bought for you with His blood! Don’t sit back and passively wait for a miracle to happen. God invites you, as a believer, to use your faith to actively make one happen! Go ahead! Get your healing, Child!
