Healing ALL Who Are Oppressed

When teaching on the subject of divine healing, it is always wise to include a disclaimer: we are not opposed to doctors in any way. Thank God for them! Without doctors and medical science, many Christians alive today would already have left this world. If you are currently under the care of a doctor, continue, if you believe your doctor is helping you to get well. God will work through your doctor if that’s what you want Him to do. He just wants you well.

The problem is there are often limitations to what medical science can do. That’s when, hopefully, we have matured as believers, and exercised our faith to the place where it is strong enough to be able to receive our healing directly from the Lord. There are no limitations to what our God can do! No matter where our faith level is today, trusting Him more fully each day should always be our goal as believers.

Many people struggle with understanding and accepting God’s will concerning divine healing. Some believe that God “gave” them their sickness. Others are covinced that He is “allowing” it for some “mysterious purpose” that only He knows, but at which they can only guess.

Still others believe God can, and sometimes does, heal, but question whether it is God’s will to heal them personally. (See 7/26/24 post)

And finally there are those who “believe” God wants to heal them, but struggle and sweat with questions and doubts about how to receive the healing they desperately want and urgently need.

But there is good news! The Bible actually gives us very simple, yet powerful insights on how we can receive healing.

So today… right now… let’s resolve the question of God’s will for our healing once and for all.

Almost everyone has heard the expression “like father, like son.” It means that the son exhibits qualities, behaviors, and characteristics that are like his father.

The Bible tells us that, for all eternity, God’s Son was one (in perfect union) with His Father. And that Jesus, in His humanity, lived a life of perfect obedience, speaking only what His Father said, and doing only what He saw His Father do. (John 6:38 and John 14:9-11)

Like Father, like Son!

Hebrews 1:3 tells us that Jesus was:

(NKJV) “… the brightness of His (Father’s) glory and the express image of His person…”

(AMP) “… the exact representative and perfect imprint of His Father’s essence…”

(Phillips) “… the flawless expression of the nature of God…”

(TPT) “… His mirror image…”

(MSG) “… stamped with God’s nature…”

(East Texas Translation) “… the spittin’ image of His Daddy!”

Jesus put it into the simplest of terms. When pressed by Philip to reveal the Father, He said, “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”
(John 14:8)

At the BEGINNING of His earthly ministry, right after His baptism by John, right after His being filled with the Holy Spirit, and immediately after He overcame the devil’s temptations in the wilderness, Jesus came to the synagogue in His home town of Nazareth on the Sabbath, and stood up to read aloud a passage of scripture that explained what He had been commissioned to do by His Father:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed; to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.” (Luke 4:18,19, NKJV)

Immediately, Jesus began to travel all around Galilee, Judea, Samaria, and Phoenecia, an area of more than 3,000 square miles. As His fame grew, so did the size of the multitudes who followed Him, seeking His healing power. There are many Scriptures that describe the large multitudes who came to Jesus to be healed. Here are just a few. All scriptures are from the NKJV:

Matthew 4:23-25 – ²³And Jesus went about ALL Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing ALL kinds of sickness and ALL kinds of disease among the people. ²⁴ Then His fame went throughout ALL Syria; and they brought to Him ALL sick people who were afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were demon- possessed, epileptics, and paralytics; and He healed them. ²⁵ Great multitudes followed Him–from Galilee, and from Decapolis, Jerusalem, Judea, and beyond the Jordan.

Matthew 8;16,17 – ¹⁶ When evening had come, they brought to Him many who were demon- possessed. And He cast out the spirits with a word, and healed ALL who were sick, ¹⁷ that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Isaiah the prophet, saying: “He Himself took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses.”

Matthew 12:14,15 – ¹⁴ Then the Pharisees went out and plotted against Him, how they might destroy Him. ¹⁵ But when Jesus knew it, He withdrew from there. And great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them ALL.

Matthew 14:34-36 – ³⁴ When they had crossed over, they came to the land of Gennesaret.
³⁵ And when the men of that place recognized Him, they sent out into ALL that surrounding region, brought to Him ALL who were sick,
³⁶ and begged Him that they might only touch the hem of His garment. And AS MANY AS TOUCHED it were made perfectly well.

Luke 6:17-19 – ¹⁷ And He came down with them and stood on a level place with a crowd of His disciples and a great multitude of people from ALL Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon, who came to hear Him and be healed of their diseases,¹⁸ as well as those who were tormented with unclean spirits. And they were healed. ¹⁹ And the whole multitude sought to touch Him, for power went out from Him and healed them ALL.

There are many other accounts in the gospels of Jesus healing specific individuals, and vast multitudes. Jesus ministered to tens and tens of thousands of sick, lame, blind, deaf, leprous, demon- possessed people for more than three years, but the Bible NEVER tells us that Jesus refused to heal a single person!

In full disclosure, the Bible tells us there was an time in Jesus’ hometown where God’s healing power was impeded by human doubt and unbelief. (Mark 6:4-6) The scripture says, “He could do no mighty work there except that He laid His hands on a few sick people and healed them. ” One Translation says, “…a few folks with minor ailments.” But the limiting factor was not God’s ability, or His willingness to heal. Jesus COULDN’T (not wouldn’t) perform great miracles there because they wouldn’t accept or have faith in Him.

Finally, let’s look at one last important scripture. AFTER the COMPLETION of Jesus’ earthly ministry, after His death, and His resurrection, the Apostle Peter was giving his eye-witness account of Jesus’ life and ministry to a Roman centurion named Cornelius. He said, “God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing ALL who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.” (Acts 10:38)

Peter, looking in the rear-view mirror at the 3½ years of Jesus’ earthly ministry testified to a remarkable truth! Jesus, representing the loving heart of our Father-God, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, healed them ALL!

Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever! (Hebrews 13:8)

Surely, there can no longer be any lingering questions or doubts about God’s power to heal or His willingness to make us whole!

Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, desire to heal you, to deliver you, and to give you a miracle! Faith is alive and strong in your heart right now! Reach out in faith and receive your miracle today in Jesus’ name!

We are praying for you to receive God’s best! You are loved!
