Today, we want to add another post to our teachings on healing. If you are sick, suffering pain, or if you need a healing miracle, please open your heart, as you read and meditate on the scriptures in this post. God’s Word is literally medicine to our flesh! (Proverbs 4:20-22)
Also, please share this post with family, friends, or co-workers, who may need healing.
We believe that, through His Word, and by the power of His Spirit, God is healing you and making you whole right now! Father-God loves you, and desires above all else that you prosper and be in health, even as your soul prospers.
(3 John 2)

We often hear or speak the name of Jesus without even thinking about what His name means.
The angel who appeared to Joseph in a dream, said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take to you Mary your wife, for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Spirit. And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20,21)
Jesus’ name in Hebrew is Yehoshua, shortened to Yeshua, which means, “Jehovah is salvation.”
Everything about Jesus, His name, His life, His miracles, His ministry, His death, His burial, and His resurrection fulfilled God’s plan to bring salvation to mankind.
The noun “salvation” (Greek = soteria) and the verb “save” (Greek = sozo) both mean, “to deliver; to protect; to heal; to preserve; to save; and to make whole.”
Jesus proclaimed His mission in the Amplified Translation, Classic Edition of Luke 4:18,19. He said, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed, who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity, to proclaim the accepted and acceptable year of the Lord, the day when salvation and the free favors of God profusely abound.”
Jesus’ mission was also revealed in the Amplified Translation, Classic Edition, of Acts 10:38, which says that, “God anointed and consecrated Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit, and with strength, and ability, and power; He went about doing good and, in particular, curing all who were harassed and oppressed by the power of the devil, for God was with Him.”
We can see the essence and operation of Jesus’ mission and His ministry in His interaction with a man who was brought to Him with a desperate need.
In Luke 5:17 we read, “Now it happened on a certain day, as He was teaching, that there were Pharisees and teachers of the law sitting by, who had come out of every town of Galilee, Judea, and Jerusalem. And the power of the Lord was present to heal them.”
It’s important for us to know that this gathering was a “whosoever opportunity.” Anyone who was there that day could have received the Lord’s healing power. It was present for (all of) “them.” All that was required to receive was an open mind and a hungry heart.
It’s also important for us to know that the Greek word translated as “heal” in this verse (iaomai) would be better translated as “to repair; to make whole.” Jesus was prepared to do some major “fixin’s” on those folks, not just physical healings. More on that later.
What was so special about this particular event? What created this environment that was super-charged with the powerful potential for miracles? The answer is found in the phrase, “He was teaching.” The healing, liberating, miracle-making, Spirit-anointed Word of God was being spoken, and was changing the very atmosphere of that room!
Jesus said in John 6:63, “the words that I speak are spirit and life.” Any time and every time the Spirit-inspired Word of God is spoken, taught, or proclaimed, the supernatural can and does occur naturally. Did you get that? The supernatural becomes natural! The impossible becomes possible!
The narrative continues in Luke 5:18,19: “Then behold, men brought on a bed, a man who was paralyzed, whom they sought to bring in and lay before Him. And when they could not find how they might bring him in, because of the crowd, they went up on the housetop, and let him down with his bed, through the tiling, into the midst before Jesus.
Hear the Holy Spirit today. A real friend will do whatever it takes to get you to Jesus because there is healing, wholeness, and salvation in His presence! But on the other hand, if someone in my life is pulling me away from Jesus, they “ain’t nothin’ but a hound dog… they ain’t never brought no blessing and they ain’t no friend of mine!”
The Bible says when He (Jesus) saw their faith, He said something to the paralyzed man. Wait a minute! How can anyone see faith? Isn’t faith an intangible and invisible force? It is! But the actions that are inspired by faith are both visible, and tangible. Those faith-actions are vitally important. Without them, our faith becomes “inoperative and ineffective.” (James 2:17, Amplified Bible)
The miracles I’ve seen while doing evangelistic crusades are almost always manifested when people light the fuse of their faith with their bold faith-actions.
This man lying at Jesus’ feet was obviously paralyzed, but he was also full of faith. Why else would you have your friends take you up on a rooftop, tear a hole in the roof, and lower you with ropes into the presence of Jesus?
Jesus saw the man’s obvious physical condition. But Jesus always looks at more than the superficial, outward appearance or condition of a person. Jesus knew this man needed liberation, not only from from his physical paralysis, but also from his inward paralysis. He needed to have his chains broken… all of them… the chains binding his soul, and the chains binding his body! He needed both… healing, and wholeness!
In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus is recorded as saying, “Do not be afraid, son. Your sins are forgiven. The penalty is paid, the guilt removed, and you are declared to be in right standing with God.” (Matthew 9:2, Amplified Bible)
Of course, the religious leaders did what they always do. They freaked totally out! The story continues: “And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, ‘Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?’ (Luke 5:21)
“But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, He answered, and said to them: Why are you reasoning in your hearts? Which is easier to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Rise up and walk’? But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins” – He said to the man who was paralyzed, “I say to you arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”
(Luke 5:22-24)
Immediately he rose up before them, took up what he had been lying on, and departed to his own house, glorifying God. And they were all amazed, and they glorified God and were filled with fear, saying, “We have seen strange things today!” (Luke 5:25-26)
Jesus ministers to the totality of our being. He won’t just repair our broken and torn body, while leaving a gaping hole in our soul. This man’s physical infirmity was obvious. Yet there was an equally compelling, even a deeper need, for the man to be cleansed of sin, and guilt, and to be restored and made whole in the deepest part of his being.
Many times our “deeper need” is not obvious to others. But Jesus, the Restorer of our souls, knows those deeper places of brokenness in us, and is always ready to heal us. This man came to Jesus through a hole in the roof. Jesus comes to us to repair and make whole the holes that life’s storms, reckless choices, and satan’s fiery darts have torn in our souls. He binds up our gaping wounds, gently and generously pouring in the oil and wine of His Spirit, as a soothing, healing balm.
Which is easier to say?
“You are forgiven!”
“Rise up and walk!”
Either. Neither. Whatever. Splitting hairs! Straining at a gnat and swallowing a camel! Clean hands. Dirty hearts! Religion is ridiculous!
BOTH (healing and wholeness) are proclamations and demonstrations of God’s love!
BOTH are offered freely by God’s grace!
BOTH were purchased by Jesus’ blood!
ONE sacrifice, for ALL, for ALL time, is the ONE and ONLY remedy for our broken and shattered lives! (Hebrews 7:27 and Hebrews 10:5-18)
What can wash away my sin? Nothing but the blood of Jesus! What can make me whole again? Nothing but the blood of Jesus!
Isaiah 53:5 – “But He was wounded for our transgressions. He was bruised for our iniquities. The chastisement for our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed.”
Psalm 103:1-3 – “Bless the Lord, O my soul; and all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases!
