Let’s review briefly from our last post, before we continue with further revelations of our new life in Christ.
We read in 2 Corinthians 5:17, “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!”
YOU ARE A NEW CREATION
Previously, we saw that there are two Greek words translated as “new” in the Bible. The first word, “neos”, refers to something that has just been made, but there are already many others in existence just like it.
The second word, translated as “new”is the word “kainos”. This is the word that is used in verse 17 and it means “fresh; unprecedented; of a completely new kind”.
Now let’s dig into the word (Greek = ktisis) that is translated as “creature” (KJV) or “creation” (NKJV). The verb form of this word means “to found; to build; to establish.” It also means “to create something from nothing.” It emphasizes the willful intent and actions of the Creator.
The Father, through Jesus’ completed work, began to intentionally build His new creation, in line with His perfect plan. He began to establish His kingdom in the earth. He began to lay the foundation of His temple, building the Church, according to His will, by using the lives of those who had been born-again, as living stones.
(1 Peter 2;4,5)
THE OLD HAS GONE
The moment you were born again, your old self—with its sinful nature—died, and a new person with the life and nature of God was created.
The phrase “passed away” can also be translated as “rendered void; disregarded.” Your old life, before Christ, (B.C.) has been voided, and should now be totally disregarded. Your old spiritually dead nature was entombed with Christ. That old man never came out of the grave. It was the new you, the resurrected, born-again you, that emerged from the tomb with Christ, in glorious newness of life!
(Romans 6:4-11)
THE NEW HAS COME
Physically, you look the same as you did before your new birth. That’s because your body is only a house for the real you, your spirit. It was your spirit that changed completely when you were born-again. You became a new creation, with the very nature of God. He imparted and infused His own life into you, giving you His spiritual DNA.
The literal translation of 2 Corinthians 5:17 says you are “a new species of being that never existed before.”
The essence of this verse is that God, in His infinite creativity, designed each of us to be uniquely special as new creations. No one else is exactly like you. No one else has your personality, your calling, your talents, your gifts, or your place in the Father’s heart. You are special. You are loved!
OLD THINGS THAT ARE GONE FOREVER:
you are no longer a slave to sin (Romans 6:5-6)
you are no longer under a curse (Galatians 3:13)
you are free from sin, condemnation, and spiritual death (Romans 8:1,2)
you are delivered out of the control and dominion of darkness (Colossians 1:13)
NEW ETERNAL REALITIES. YOU ARE NOW:
redeemed by His blood, forgiven by His grace (Ephesians 1:7)
healed by His stripes (1 Peter 2:24)
made alive with Him (Ephesians 2:5)
made one spirit with Him (1 Corinthians 6:17)
conformed to His image (Romans 8:29)
made the righteousness of God in Christ
(2 Corinthians 5:21)
an heir of God, and a joint-heir with Christ (Romans 8:16,17)
blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus
(Ephesians 1:3)
inseparable from God’s love (Romans 8:38,39)
greater than satan and all the forces of hell
(1 John 4:4)
FINAL WORDS
In Christ YOU are loved, forgiven, and secure!
In Christ YOU are adopted, chosen, reconciled, justified, and redeemed!
In Christ YOU are victorious, and filled with unspeakable joy, and peace!
